International Women's Day 2022

Happy International Women's Day 2022!

The 2022 theme is #BreakTheBias, a world free of gender stereotypes and discrimination. Today, and everyday, we celebrate all our role model women who set the examples needed for our future generations.

So, what makes me so passionate about #BreakingTheBias? Well, to those who believe that women are incapable of handling what men can handle - from my work life to my personal life, I've witnessed the polar opposite.

Where does this stem from? I guess growing up as one of two children raised solely by a woman would definitely be a great starting point in appreciating the resilience us ladies have. Watching one woman take on the role of not only both parents, but also being the key provider in every other nitty gritty role in between certainly gives 'multi-tasking' a whole new meaning.

Women in the workplace? That's definitely a topic to #BreakTheBias about.

Being a young woman at the beginning of my career, it's extremely important to raise my voice about putting an end to pigeon-holing and undermining based on gender.

I was once asked in an interview, "what would determine longevity for you in a workplace?" The first thing that came to mind related to the organisational culture:

One of the key things I've observed in my (short) career, is the very strong link between workplace culture and the overall functionality of the company.

I must admit, I've been very lucky to have only worked in places where women are recognised and celebrated for their work. Funnily enough, it's these places where you notice a trend of strong staff longevity, and a workplace culture where employees voluntarily go above and beyond because they feel appreciated, valued and recognised by their superiors.

Since my first job out of Uni, I've always been mentored by women, and witnessed first-hand just how much women are capable of. From juggling multiple roles to managing a national team, it's definitely opened my eyes to what we bring to the table and re-defined the 'I can and I will do it' attitude.

I've always been surrounded by strong, resilient women inspiring other women with their endless potential, and I've been lucky enough to see that flourish in front of my very eyes - and truth be told, I think this has rubbed off on me and the way I perceive my own potential.

Today is about celebrating ALL women. Whether you're a woman in the workforce, a stay-at-home-mum, a young woman starting out or anywhere in between, we all play a role in breaking down stereotypes.

Today is about sharing our stories to celebrate our achievements. Share your story with the #BreakTheBias hashtag and let's abolish the stigma for our future generations of strong women.
